Eclipse Award Winner Dreaming Of Anna Dies At 14

Dreaming of Anna, winner of the Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old filly of 2006, has died, the Daily Racing Form has reported. She was 14.

Racing as a homebred for Frank Calabrese, Dreaming of Anna (Rahy x Justenuffheart, by Broad Brush) was undefeated in four starts at age 2. After breaking her maiden in her debut, she set a new course record when winning the 5 1/2-furlong Tippett Stakes at Colonial Downs.

Dreaming of Anna defeated colts in her next start, the G3 Summer Stakes at Woodbine. In her final start of 2006, she went wire-to-wire to win the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs.

Altogether, Dreaming of Anna won 10 races from 17 starts for earnings of $2,204,550.

Dreaming of Anna was trained by Wayne Catalano, who said that he was told the mare died last week in Kentucky.

“We’re very sad,” Catalano told the DRF. “Mr. Calabrese and I had a lot of fun with her.”

“She was special to me. She was my first Breeders’ Cup winner.”
