Zayas Pilots Four Consecutive Winners Saturday At Gulfstream West

Edgard Zayas padded his lead in the Gulfstream Park West jockey standings with a four-win day Saturday. The 25-year-old Puerto Rico native rode the winners of four consecutive races to boost his meet-leading total to 45 victories while raising his mounts’ purse-earnings over $1 million.

Zayas, who captured the 2016 Gulfstream Park West title with 47 victories and finished second behind Emisael Jaramillo with 44 wins last season, capped his big day with a two-length victory aboard Todd Pletcher-trained Cutting Humor ($4.40) in Race 7, a $60,000 maiden special weight races for 2-year-olds. Starlight Racing’s Cutting Humor, a son of First Samurai, raced with blinkers for the first time after finishing second in his debut at Belmont and third at Keeneland.

Zayas also scored aboard Paint the Corners ($5.80) in Race 4, Sweet Kayden ($3.80) in Race 5 and Flying Liberty ($3.60) in Race 6.

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved for the sixth consecutive racing day Saturday at Gulfstream Park, producing a $67,039.62 carryover jackpot for Sunday’s 10-race program.

Tickets with all six winners Saturday were each worth $55.82.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The popular multi-race wager was last solved Nov. 9 for a $71,152.16 jackpot payoff.

Sunday’s 11-race card will be kicked off with a Super Hi-5 carryover of $5,626.92 in Race 1.
