While many people have taken precautionary measures for their own health, what can be done to ensure a horse’s care is not compromised if their human counterparts are quarantined? The Horse suggests the following measures be taken:

  • Ensure the hay loft is well stocked
  • Purchase additional grain and supplements
  • Trim horse’s feet if they’re nearing the end of their shoeing or trim cycle
  • Update the barn first-aid kit, restocking medicine and supplies as necessary, ensuring enough prescription medications, like Banamine and Bute, are on hand
  • Have additional bedding delivered if storage space allows
  • Update feed, blanketing, medication and other charts
