Weekend Lineup Presented By DRF Bets: Ringing In The New Year

Helping to ring in the New Year this weekend are a number of listed stakes races across the country, including the now downgraded Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct on Monday. The race still offers points toward the 2018 Kentucky Derby, however, with 10 up for grabs to the winner.

On Saturday, Santa Anita features a trio of graded stakes to celebrate the eve of New Year’s Eve. The G3 Robert J. Frankel drew a field of six fillies and mares for the 1 1/8-mile turf contest, led by a duo of Chad Brown trainees. French-bred Penjade won her first listed stakes last out in New York, and is the morning-line favorite to add a graded win to her resume.

The Grade 1 American Oaks boasts a field of 10 sophomore fillies, two trained by Brown and three trained by Richard Baltas. The morning-line favorite Rymska enters off three straight stakes wins, but Daddys Lil Darling has been knocking on the door all season for trainer Ken McPeek.

Saturday’s G3 Midnight Lute is a $100,000 sprint with a competitive field of nine including Americanize, Masochistic, Silent Bird, and Calculator.
