Weekend Lineup: Big Fields, Purses Highlight Kentucky Downs Card

The undulating European-style turf course at Kentucky Downs will be the focus of the North American graded stakes action this weekend.

Four stakes with purses topping a total of $2 million Saturday are part of the racetrack’s five days of racing valued at $10 million in purses.

The feature race of Saturday’s card is the Grade 3 Calumet Kentucky Turf Cup, a 1/2-mile affair with a full field that includes last year’s winner Oscar Nominated. Eight-year-old Undrafted makes his 37th career start as the favorite in the G3 Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint.

The slate also includes the G3 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf, contested at a mile and the Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint, a 6 1/2-furlong event led by Christophe Clement trained Lull, a consistent graded stakes competitor who won the G3 Honey Fox this year at Gulfstream Park.

Later on Saturday, the G3 British Columbia Derby will be contested at Hastings Park in Canada.
