Update: Torres Undergoes Successful Surgery For Fractured Vertebra

Jockey Francisco Torres underwent successful surgery to fuse a fractured vertabra in his spine Thursday night in New Orleans.

According to the Daily Racing Form, Torres fractured the C-6 vertebra, in addition to his tailbone, when he was involved in a spill in the sixth race at Fair Grounds. Torres's mount, Aaron of Goshen, broke down and was struck by a trailing horse, Zarby's Derby Day.

Torres was transported to University Medical Center and it was discovered he had a spinal fracture at the base of his neck.
