Unique Horse Blankets Auctioned To Raise Money For Equine Rescue

McLain Ward, an international rider and Olympic gold medalist, has long been a wonderful ambassador for the sport of riding. In a characteristic philanthropic effort, McLain has donated coolers he has won with his great mare Sapphire to the Silver Oak Jumper Tour, which will auction the coolers and donate the money to Omega Horse Rescue.

Included in this auction is Sapphire’s cooler from the 2008 American Invitational, in the scarlet Budweiser colors, and a 2009 Horse of the Year cooler, also won by Sapphire, nicknamed Sara. These coolers are even more special as Sapphire has since passed and the American Invitational is no longer held.

Omega Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is a non-breed specific rescue that also assists in placing donkeys and mules into loving homes. Regardless of how they arrive at Omega, the organization’s mission is to “educate horse owners on the true responsibilities involved in equine care; legislate the humane treatment of horses everywhere; and find appropriate homes for unwanted, abused or neglected equines.”
