Two-Time Champion Unique Bella Bred To Top Sire Curlin

Unique Bella, a two-time Eclipse Award winner during her on-track career, was bred to two-time Horse of the Year and leading sire Curlin, per the Twitter account of the mare’s owner Haras Don Alberto.

The mating would produce Unique Bella’s second foal, after the 6-year-old Tapit mare delivered a Medaglia d’Oro filly in January.

Unique Bella was named champion female sprinter of 2017 as a 3-year-old off victories in the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes, the G2 Las Virgenes Stakes and Santa Ynez Stakes, and G3 L.A. Woman Stakes and Santa Ysabel Stakes. Then, she earned champion older mare honors the following season with victories in the G1 Beholder Mile Stakes and Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, as well as the G2 Santa Maria Stakes. She retired with nine wins in 12 starts for earnings of $1,272,400.

Curlin, a 16-year-old son of Smart Strike, is a two-time Horse of the Year known for his victories in the Preakness Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Classic, Dubai World Cup, and two editions of the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

His most notable runners include champions Vino RossoExaggerator, Good Magic, and Stellar Wind, along with Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice and classic-placed runners Keen Ice, Irish War Cry, and Tenfold.

Curlin stands at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $175,000.
