Two Birds With One Horse: Broodmare Purchase At Keeneland November Supports Charity

Although Flatter mare Dicey Flats failed to attain her reserve at the Keeneland November sale this week, her story had an exceptionally happy ending. According to The Blood-Horse, Dicey Flats was on offer through Taylor Made Sales Agency with the promise that any proceeds from her sale would go to Lexington Catholic High School’s tuition assistance program. The mare left the ring with an RNA at $32,000, but sold privately to breeder Jeff Bloom for $20,000.

Bloom hadn’t planned on purchasing the mare, who is in foal to Verrazano, but was inspired by the charity element after speaking to Mark Taylor about the project and happy to add a new horse to his broodmare band.

“It was 100 percent tied to the cause,” Bloom told The Blood-Horse‘s Erin Shea.

Dicey Flats will go to New York to foal and is expected to visit Majestic City in 2018.
