Thunder Snow Pointing For U.S. Campaign, Breeders’ Cup Classic

According to various reports, the connections of Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow, have their sights on a return to the U.S. later this year and ultimately a start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs Nov. 3.

Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor said the Irish-bred 4-year-old was given a break following the March 31 World Cup and will return to racing with a start in Europe first, possibly the Prix Jacques le Marois Aug. 12 at Deauville, France.

“We are planning to take Thunder Snow to the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on September 29, ” said bin Suroor. “But we want to give him a race in Europe first.”

Thunder Snow, a son of Helmet, was last seen in the U.S. stopping in the 2017 Kentucky Derby shortly after breaking from the starting gate. The Darley-bred has seven victories from 18 starts and has earned more than $8 million, $6 million of it coming from his win in the Dubai World Cup.
