A hotwalker at The Thoroughbred Center in Lexington, Ky. tested positive for COVID-19 about three weeks ago, according to a report in the Lexington Herald-Leader. The woman has since recovered and returned to work, along with a family member who also underwent self-quarantine.
Another backstretch employee at Keeneland’s Rice Road barns self-quarantined after a family member tested positive for the virus.
None of the trainers employing these individuals had sent horses to race out of state, but the Keeneland-owned TTC is allowing horses to ship and return to tracks that are still holding live racing.
“We’re following the right protocols and we will continue to do so,” Keeneland vice president and COO Vince Gabbert told the Herald-Leader, adding that the low number of cases indicate the track’s biosecurity measures are working as designed.
