‘The Team Did A Great Job’: Pletcher Saddles Four Winners At Gulfstream Wednesday

Trainer Todd Pletcher saddled four winners Wednesday at Gulfstream Park in his quest for a 15th consecutive Championship Meet title.

After visiting the winner’s circle with Filet of Sole ($10.40) in the third race, Your Only Man ($8.20) in the fifth and Impact Player ($3.60) in the seventh, Pletcher capped the big day by saddling Songeur ($5.40) for a victory in the ninth race.

“It was a great day. The team did a great job,” the seven-time Eclipse Award winner said.

Songeur rallied from off the pace to score his fourth straight victory over the Gulfstream Park turf course while giving Pletcher his 316th triumph of the year. The 4-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song broke his maiden at Gulfstream in a $20,000 claiming race last March before winning an optional claiming race and a $16,000 claiming race. Idle since June, Songeur finished second at Gulfstream Park West in November.

Songeur, who won the ninth race by a neck, was eligible for the $125,000 Claiming Crown Emerald at Gulfstream Dec. 2 but failed to draw into the race from the also-eligible list.

“He loves the course. We gave him the summer off because we knew that. We got a little bit of a break when we didn’t lose him for $16,000. He’s eligible for these starter races,” Pletcher said. “We were hoping to get him into the Claiming Crown.”

Songeur was Pletcher’s 11th win of the Championship Meet.
