Team Winx ‘Emotional’ After Mare’s Electric Record-Setting Cox Plate Victory

She’s done it. Australia’s Winx captured her 29th straight race on Saturday, and in so doing became the first horse to ever win the prestigious Cox Plate four times. According to news.com.au, the star mare made the victory look easy, defeated Benbatl and Humidor with her patented stretch run.

“I can’t believe it,” said jockey Hugh Bowman. “I really thought in the build up to this I would get quite emotional. I am feeling emotional but the electricity that came through my body when I turned into the home straight was something that I guess I only get to feel but everyone watching … oh I don’t know. I’m lost for words.”

She’s simply one of a kind.

Trainer Chris Waller was similarly emotional.

“It certainly hasn’t sunk in,” he said. “I’m just trying to keep myself collected.”
