‘Taking Things Slow’: Songbird Kicks Her Stall Wall, Delays Training

Champion Songbird, the 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro, has reportedly kicked the wall in her stall and come up with some minor swelling in that leg, according to bloodhorse.com. While not a serious injury, the filling has delayed the Fox Hill Farm-owned filly's training schedule, and consequently, her 2017 debut.

“We were already taking things slow, but when she kicked the wall in her stall, it backed up her training a bit,” said Victoria Keith, racing assistant to Rick Porter. “But she'll be breezing soon—hopefully very soon.”

The seven-time Grade 1 winner had been aimed at an ambitious campaign this season, beginning with the March 18 Grade 1 Santa Margarita Stakes at the filly's home base of Santa Anita. However, Songbird has not yet recorded a breeze for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, and therefore is still several months from her next start.
