Still Time To Enter Kentucky Downs Twitter Contest And Win VIP Trip

Racing and sports enthusiasts, as well as those wanting to experience a slice of Americana in a memorable setting, have a week left to enter Kentucky Downs’ #LiveAtKyDowns Post Time Contest on Twitter for the chance to win a VIP trip to America’s most unique race meet. The contest concludes July 31.

Kentucky Downs’ 2019 live meet spans five days: Aug. 31 and Sept. 5, 7, 8 and 12. The racing is conducted exclusively on grass and over one of the United States’ largest turf courses while also offering the world’s richest average daily purses outside of Japan, biggest average field sizes in America and among the lowest takeout rates (the percent taken off the top of each dollar bet that goes to purses, the track and state parimutuel taxes).

The #LiveAtKyDowns Post Time Contest is free. Entrants simply post on Twitter why they want to attend Kentucky Downs’ live race meet for the first time, why they want to go back or about the appeal of the track. To count toward the competition, posts must include the hashtag #LiveAtKyDowns and @KyDownsRacing. There is no limit on entries an individual can make. However, an entry form must be filled out for every submission, with the forms available at and

The #LiveAtKyDowns Post Time Contest awards a VIP trip to a regional winner and to a national winner. The recipients will be announced Sunday Aug. 4 at Ellis Park’s Kentucky Downs Preview Day, which features five $100,000 turf stakes funded by money transferred from Kentucky Downs’ purse account in an agreement with the tracks’ horsemen’s group.

“We know people all over the country love playing our races,” said Ted Nicholson, Kentucky Downs’ senior vice president and general manager. “And what we hear from our guests, read on social media and simply the eyeball test tells us how much people also enjoy coming to Kentucky Downs and soaking in our fun and festive fair-like atmosphere while watching up-close outstanding turf racing over a one-of-a-kind American course. They can’t wait to get back, or they’ve heard about it and want to see for themselves. Whether our winners have Kentucky Downs as a bucket-list destination or they join us every year, the #LiveAtKyDowns contest on Twitter is going to provide two people with an amazing time and experience they won’t forget.”

Judging to select the two grand prize recipients is purely subjective, including originality and passion exhibited in the posts. The winners will be selected by Kentucky Downs’ marketing team, as well as 2018 winners Dennis Poppe of Seattle and Tom Pinkowski of Mount Sterling, Ky. Judges may consider a series of posts collectively or the overall body of work in determining a winner. The #LiveAtKyDowns Post Time Contest is not a sweepstakes and is not determined by random drawing.

The two grand prize winners will be Kentucky Downs’ guests for live racing Sept. 5, 7 and 8, including hotel accommodations for up to five nights at the Hampton Inn Franklin, Ky., near the track. The Sept. 7 card includes the $700,000, Grade 3 Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint, a “Win and You’re In” race for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, and the $1 million, Grade 3 Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup. The winner of the Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint will earn a $1 million bonus if the horse goes on to capture Keeneland’s $200,000, Grade 2 Bourbon Stakes and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

The regional winner will receive a betting voucher for $1,000 and up to four tickets in either the Turf Club Tent or Finish Line Pavilion for any or all of the three race days the winner is able to attend. The national winner will be reimbursed for airfare up to $600 for one person or up to $1,000 for two, a $500 betting voucher and two tickets in the Turf Club Tent or Finish Line Pavilion for any or all of the three race days the winner is able to attend. Winners also will have a race named after them and present a trophy to the winning connections.

In addition, the TVG racing network will award the winners a $250 credit in a TVG wagering account.
