Starship Bonita, Southache Headline Sept. 30 Florida Sire Stakes At Gulfstream

The 2017 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes finale is scheduled to headline the Saturday, Sept. 30 program at Gulfstream Park, highlighting the closing weekend of a highly successful Summer Meet.

The $400,000 FSS In Reality Division and the $400,000 FSS My Dear Girl Division will co-feature a program with six stakes worth a total of $1.1 million in purses.

Southache, who posted one of the fastest speed figures for a 2-year-olds in the country this year while winning the $200,000 Affirmed Division Sept. 2, is scheduled to compete in the In Reality, a 1 1/16-mile race for FSS-eligible 2-year-olds. Starship Bonita, who captured the $200,000 Susan’s Girl Division the same day for owner Laurence Leavy, a.k.a. Marlins Man, is slated to top the field for the My Dear Girl, a 1 1/16-mile race for FSS-eligible 2-year-old fillies.

The FSS features will be supported by four $75,000 stakes, including the Armed Forces, a one mile turf event for 2-year-olds; the Mr. Steele, a mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up; the Our Dear Peggy, a mile turf race for 2-year-old fillies; and the Monroe, a 1 1/16-mile turf event for fillies and mares.

The conclusion of the Summer Soiree Series will be celebrated in Ten Palms restaurant at Gulfstream, featuring ‘Beer, Bourbon & Burgers’ in conjunction with the Sept. 30 Florida Sire Stakes card 1-5 p.m.

Tickets are available for $25 at the Gulfstream box office. Each guest, who will receive a program and a $2 betting voucher, will have the opportunity to taste bourbons, as well as domestic and craft beers, while sampling a wide variety of sliders and burgers.
