‘Sporting Great’ Winx Absolutely ‘Electric’ Ahead Of Cox Plate

Australian supermare Winx is preparing to defend her title in the Cox Plate for a record fourth time on Saturday, and trainer Chris Waller told The Sydney Morning Herald that the 7-year-old is ready to show her best effort.

“She is just electric at the moment,” Waller said. “She is simply in the zone. I don’t know what makes her tick but she knows when the timing is right to be spot on.”

Should Winx cross the finish line first, it will be her 29th straight victory and 22nd Group 1 victory.

“At no stage have we ever had to make her run faster, we just have to maintain her,” Waller continued. “She is like any sporting great, the further they get into their career. They do little more but it’s kind of like she is peaking herself. She makes it easier for me.”
