‘Spirit Of Christmas’? Santa Appearance Draws Stewards’ Ire At Lingfield

A parade including Santa Claus and two of his elves did not go unnoticed on Saturday at Lingfield, reports racingpost.com. While the mounted trio was a hit with the crowd, stewards went as far as to hold an inquiry as to “why the clerk of the course failed to notify the racecourse department” about the parade, according to the official report.

“The stewards interviewed the clerk of the course, who stated that, due to an oversight, he had failed to seek permission,” the report continued. “They forwarded his comments to the head office of the BHA for consideration.”

Simon Clare, mother of one of the “elves,” couldn’t understand the stewards issue with the event: “I’m not sure why the bureaucrats need to get involved when there are so many more pressing concerns at the BHA at present. It’s a bit heavy handed and not exactly in the spirit of Christmas.”
