Sir Mark Prescott Celebrates Emotional Win With Filly Who Jumped Out Of A Plane

Her story wasn’t all that unusual in the beginning. As a yearling, the daughter of Flatter went through the Keeneland September sale to the tune of $200,000. She had been selected by trainer Sir Mark Prescott on behalf of one of his owners, but the owner decided he did not like the filly, according to racingpost.com.

Prescott didn’t panic, and reasoned that he would be able to re-sell the filly in England. That was, of course, before the yearling filly took a flying leap out of her airplane box to land on the tarmac at Stansted.

“She got out of the stall and on to the runway,” said Prescott. “She was cut from top to toe, so of course we couldn’t sell her and I’m afraid she’s mine… I always say this is the most expensive horse in the world because all she’s done is rack up bills until now.”

This Sunday, the filly named Eve Harrington broke her maiden at second asking by a very tight nose at Southwell Racecourse, defining herself as a desirable broodmare prospect.

“The family has done very well in America,” Prescott explained. “Maraud won the Group 2 on Derby day in Kentucky and he’s a half-brother so I’ll be rescued now she’s won!”
