Sherman Keeping ‘Occupied’ During Recovery From Cancer Surgery

Trainer Art Sherman, best-known as the conditioner of California Chrome, is in the process of recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his bladder, according to brisnet.com. At 82, Sherman is still training and gets out to watch training at Los Alamitos four mornings per week.

“I like to be involved, and we’ve got some young horses coming in and getting ready,” Sherman said. “It keeps me occupied. You gotta keep yourself occupied. I don’t play golf or anything like that, but I walk the dog every morning and go to the store with my wife–it’s nothing exciting, but we’re moving around.”

Sherman’s goals are to be more active during the Del Mar meeting and to make it out to Ferndale for the fair track’s “Art Sherman Day” in August.
