Second Case Of Potomac Horse Fever In Kentucky

On June 5, 2018, a second case of Potomac Horse Fever in Bourbon County, KY, was confirmed. A 2017 Thoroughbred filly presented on May 29 with dehydration, a fever and diarrhea. Blood and feces were tested and Potomac Horse Fever was confirmed.

Treatment began on June 5 and the filly has improved and is expected to make a complete recovery. This case is not suspected to be related to the Potomac Horse Fever case identified on June 1 in Bourbon County.
