Saturday At Sam Houston: Picks And Analysis By Chris Griffin And Fred Faour For March 7 Card

Saturday’s card at Sam Houston Race Park is one of the biggest days of the meet for the Arabian breed, featuring a pair of stakes races to lead off the night.

The WATHBA Stallions Cup Stakes kicks things off for Arabian fillies and mares going seven furlongs, followed by the Grade 1 HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Sprint Cup Stakes going the same distance.

Another highlight of the card is Race 6, a competitive allowance for Texas-bred fillies and mares going 5 1/2 furlongs, led by stakes winner It’s My Money and stakes-placed Golden Lullabye.

The meet title race is essentially down to two in the jockey colony, with David Cabrera and Deshawn Parker well clear from the rest of the pack. The trainer race also has two primary contenders in the final month of Sam Houston’s Thoroughbred meet, led by Steve Asmussen and Karl Broberg.

As usual, multi-race wagers at Sam Houston are offered at a 12 percent takeout.

Here are Saturday’s picks by Chris Griffin, the voice of Sam Houston Race Park, and Fred Faour, ESPN personality and expert handicapper, with comments on their top selections.
