Saratoga: Backstretch Program Celebrates 10th Year

The Saratoga Backstretch Appreciation program will begin its 10th season of providing backstretch workers and their families with food and activities when the 2017 meet gets underway July 21.

The program, which is organized and sponsored by Marylou Whitney and her husband, John Hendrickson, is a way to give back to the ‘unsung heroes' of the racing world – the grooms, hotwalkers, exercise riders, etc., and their families.

Every evening during the race meet, workers will be treated to a variety of free activities – from dinners and movies to Bingo games with prizes. Things get underway Friday with free “make your own sundaes”.
