Santa Anita’s Pick Six Carries Over $70,072 To Saturday’s Card

Although the 6-5 favorite waltzed home in front in Friday’s nightcap, a Santa Anita Pick Six carryover of $70,072 had already been assured as longshots were the order of the day in the earlier races. With a nine-race card on tap, it’s expected Saturday’s total Pick Six pool will exceed $250,000.

With a total of 64 horses entered and 61 of them eligible to run in races four through nine, Saturday’s Pick Six offers players average field size of just over 10 horses per race.

Leg two in Saturday’s Pick Six is the Grade III, $100,000 Sham Stakes for 3-year-olds at a flat mile. Bob Baffert’s McKinzie is the 3-5 morning line favorite and will no doubt be singled on a great many tickets.

The Grade II, $200,000 San Gabriel Stakes, for older horses at a mile and one eighth on turf, has been carded as the seventh race. French-bred Itsinthepost, trained by Jeff Mullins, has been installed as the tepid 3-1 morning line favorite in a wide-open field of 10 and thus poses a significant hurdle for Pick Six participants.

In addition to the conventional carryover, Santa Anita’s Single Ticket Pick Six Jackpot carryover now stands at $149,380.

First post time on Saturday is at 12:30 p.m. Approximate post time for the fourth race is at 2 p.m. PT. Admission gates open at 10:30 a.m. For additional information, please visit santaanita.com.
