Santa Anita: Rymska, Masochistic Scratched From American Oaks, Midnight Lute

Rymska, the 5-2 morning line favorite for Saturday's Grade 1 American Oaks, has been scratched from the race at Santa Anita Park. According to Bradley Weisbord, the 3-year-old Le Havre filly came up lame in her stall on Friday morning, necessitating her scratch. Plans call for Rymska to return to South Florida for further diagnostics, with the goal of racing in the 2018 season.

Star-crossed Masochistic, now trained by Bob Baffert, was announced as a scratch from the G3 Midnight Lute on Friday. The eight-time winner will now be pointed to the $150,000 California Cup Sprint for state-breds on Jan. 27, according to drf.com.

“There's a race at the end of the January,” said Baffert. “We'll aim for that. I don't think he's quite ready.”

Sad news that we will have to scratch G3W RYMSKA today as the favorite from the G1 American Oaks. Was undefeated in 2017 and trained super for the race but was lame in her stall this AM. Hope to get her back to S. Florida and do more diagnostics. Ideal plan is to run her in 2018. pic.twitter.com/eUTUrVHyTo
