San Antonio Host City For AAEP’s 63rd Convention

Equine practitioners will convene in San Antonio, Texas, this fall to acquire practical knowledge and enhance their skills at the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) 63rd Annual Convention, to be held Nov. 17-21 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

The annual convention is the world’s largest continuing education event dedicated to equine practice, anchored by more than 130 hours of continuing education; a 300-exhibitor strong trade show; and attendance comprising thousands of industry leaders, researchers, academicians, private practitioners and students.

This year’s educational program will feature a robust variety of clinical knowledge in several areas, including laminitis, ophthalmology, infectious disease, internal medicine and lameness. Renowned equine dental/sinus and upper respiratory surgeon Dr. Padraic Dixon will be featured as the Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art lecturer.

New to the 2017 program are 90-minute “Meet the Expert” sessions, a series of interactive, small-group discussions with convention presenters distinguished in their respective fields. These forum-styled sessions will allow practitioners to source the expertise of some of the leading minds in equine medicine.

Complementing the scientific sessions will be daily Business of Practice discussions and sessions on the rising topics of ethics, personal wellness and quality of life. Attendees can maintain a “Healthy Practice” mindset at Convention by participating in the AAEP River City 5K Fun Run on Sunday, Nov. 19, or by attending exercise classes offered Sunday and Monday mornings.

A comprehensive menu of student programming designed to facilitate the transition from veterinary school to practice will include interactive dry labs, professional development sessions and the traditional Avenues Career Night at which students can explore internship and externship opportunities with dozens of leading equine practices throughout North America. The majority of student programming will be held Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18.

Attendees can also make connections and form meaningful relationships with colleagues at daily networking and social events, while a robust trade show will showcase the newest products and services for practice.
