Sadler Hoping For A ‘Stellar’ Performance In Breeders’ Cup

Trainer John Sadler is hoping that this year’s edition of the Breeders’ Cup brings with it better fortunes for his stable, and that he will finally be able to breakthrough and win his first Breeders’ Cup race.

As the Orange County Register reports, heading into the 2017 Breeders’ Cup, Sadler is winless with 39 starters. He has finished second three times, and been third on seven other occasions.

Despite being a bit frustrated with getting so close but not quite reaching his goal, Sadler takes it all in stride. After all, he’s not the only talented trainer to take a long time to reach the Breeders’ Cup winner’s circle. Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel was blanked 37 times before finally winning the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Sprint with Squirtle Squirt.

“I think on some level it does gnaw at me, but then I stop and realize there are a lot of trainers who’ve never even started a horse in the Breeders’ Cup,” he said.
