Royal Ascot Opportunity Awaits For Melbourne Cup Winner Michelle Payne

Michelle Payne, who made history in 2015 when she became the first female jockey to win the Group 1 Melbourne Cup, will journey to England to ride at Royal Ascot in June.

The Racing Post reports that Payne will ride Group 2 winner Kaspersky for her friend, trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam. Kaspersky is targeting the G1 Queen Anne on opening day. Long range plans call for the 6-year-old to be sent to Australia to compete. He will be trained in Australia by Payne, who holds a dual license in her home country.

Payne recently told the Herald Sun: “It's an unbelievable opportunity. I'm looking forward to both riding and training the horse. To think I might be riding at Royal Ascot is incredible.''

According to the Racing Post, the British Horseracing Authority indicated that racing rules will allow Payne to ride at Royal Ascot, as long as she isn't riding against one of her own horses.
