Reports: McLaughlin To Stop Training, Become Agent For Jockey Luis Saez

Reports Wednesday indicated that trainer Kiaran McLaughlin has decided to retire from training racehorses and will instead take up a role as jockey’s agent for Luis Saez.

HorseRaceInsider said McLaughlin would not confirm or deny the story when reached, but Daily Racing Form also reported the news Wednesday on Twitter, saying Saez’s agent, Richie DePass, is retiring.

Saez has the mount on Maximum Security, who sits atop the latest NTRA Top Thoroughbred poll and who captured the inaugural $20 million Saudi Cup on Saturday.

McLaughlin has been a jockey’s agent before. Early in his career, he booked mounts for Chris Antley prior to beginning his training career in Dubai.

As a trainer, McLaughlin has won more than 1,500 races from 7,702 starts and earned more than $120 million. He has conditioned a dozen-plus Grade 1 winners, including Invasor, Frosted and Jazil. The trainer’s victories include the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the Dubai World Cup, the Travers and the Belmont Stakes.
