Report: Trainer Ellis Seeks One-Day Reduction In Suspension To Save Stable

Lawyers for Ron Ellis have submitted a proposal to have the trainer’s recent 60-day suspension cut back to 59 days for the purpose of keeping his stable intact, according to a report at bloodhorse.com.

Under California rules, a 60-day suspension requires a stable be disbanded. Attorney Steve Schwartz told the Blood-Horse the purpose of the agreement would be to prevent Ellis’s 15 employees from losing their jobs.

“The target is to not to throw 15 innocent, hard-working people out of jobs,” he said.

In exchange for the reduction, Ellis would agree to a year of probation. The suspension was handed down after 2016 Breeders’ Cup Sprint second-place finisher Masochistic tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol; the horse was subsequently disqualified.
