Three racetracks in Texas – two greyhound tracks and one which conducts both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing – have told the Texas Racing Commission that they will cease conducting live meets beginning today,
The Daily Racing Form reports that the Gillespie County Fair, along with the greyhound tracks Gulf Coast Racing and Gulf Greyhound Park do not plan to renew their licenses for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins Sept. 1.
The racing commission requires that tracks be licensed to hold live racing and host simulcasting. None of the three facilities are currently conducting live racing.
According to the Form, the Texas Racing Commission is facing a budget shortfall for 2017; they have enough money to operate through the end of September.
