Report: New Jersey Sports Betting Up, Monmouth’s Share Down

The Daily Racing Form reported Wednesday that New Jersey spots betting figures rose from June to July, but as more sports books have opened, Monmouth Park has lost considerable market share.

For June and July, $57.1 million has been bet on sports in the state, with $16.4 million wagered in June — marking a significant increase for July, although an exact figure was not released in a state-generated report this week.

Monmouth was one of two facilities taking bets in the last half of June, when it took roughly half of all wagers in New Jersey, but was one of five providers open by the end of July, and took 22.3 percent of sports wagers for the month.

Dennis Drazin, president and CEO of Darby Development, Monmouth Park operator, cast doubt on the way other operators and state officials are tallying totals, and expressed hope wagers will rise again when the NFL season gets rolling.
