Report: Jockey Norberto Arroyo Skips Bail, Has Bench Warrant Issued In California

According to reporting from the Daily Racing Form’s Jay Privman and Steve Andersen, jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. has had a bench warrant issued against him after he did not show up for a January arraignment on four charges related to domestic violence. The San Diego County Superior Court has also increased the jockey’s bail to $100,000.

Arroyo was banned from California Horse Racing Board grounds last weekend after he failed to show up to a hearing about alleged disobedience to security personnel at Los Alamitos and disorderly conduct. He has not ridden a race since Oct. 24, 2019.

According to the report, the charges against Arroyo include three felonies and a misdemeanor and include “corporal injury to spouse and/or roommate” and “cruelty to a child.” A protective order was issued against Arroyo in December for a woman and child.

Arroyo has had trouble with the law previously, having served 14 months in prison for cocaine possession in 2010. He was jailed in 2003 for second-degree assault after a fight in a pool hall in 2002, and was arrested alongside his father and brother for assaulting a Bronx cab driver.
