The status of Japanese invader Epicharis for the Belmont Stakes is questionable after he was treated for lameness in his right front leg Wednesday night.
According to a report in the Daily Racing Form, veterinary records released by the New York State Gaming Commission show that the colt was given two grams of phenylbutazone (bute) via IV Wednesday for “lameness right front, possible hoof.”
Epicharis did not go to the track to train Thursday morning, but was walked in the shedrow.
