Report: Belmont Overhaul Could Include Synthetic Track

The new Belmont Park could include a synthetic track, according to a Daily Racing Form report. New York Racing Association President and CEO Chris Kay told the Form the dirt and two turf tracks will be taken back down to the base and have their irrigation systems overhauled.

Kay said a synthetic track would go inside the inner turf course to handle winter racing and races taken off the turf due to rain.

Kay emphasized the redesign is still in the planning stages for both the tracks and the grandstand. He is hopeful renovations would be complete by 2021, assuming work begins spring of next year.
