Queen Anne Stakes: Lord Glitters Captures ‘Win And You’re In’ Ticket For The Mile

The 2019 Royal Ascot meeting got off to a curious start Tuesday with the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, a qualifier for this year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile.

First, last year’s Queen Anne winner Accidental Agent stood in his stall when the gates opened and refused to run. Then, the 2018 second-place finisher, Lord Glitters, won a nip-and-tuck three-horse battle to the wire late, prevailing by about a neck over Beat the Bank. One Master finished third. All three horses were longshots with Lord Glitters going off at 14-1 and the other two at 20-1.

Lord Glitters is a 6-year-old horse who was bred in France, a son of Whipper out of the Homme de Loi mare Lady Glitters. Trained by David O’Meara, Lord Glitters was ridden to victory over the straight mile by Daniel Tudhope.
