Privman Takes Home Awards For Pair Of 2017 Breeders’ Cup Stories

Jay Privman, national correspondent for Daily Racing Form, won two Breeders’ Cup Writing Awards based on articles from the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The awards were presented at the 59th Annual National Turf Writers and Broadcasters Awards Dinner during the week of the 35th Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs.

Privman, of Carlsbad, Calif., won the Bill Leggett Award for Outstanding Feature Writing for “Ron Winchell’s Passion for Racing Comes from Dad,” about Winchell’s late father, Verne – a successful Thoroughbred owner – and the great memories both father and son shared going to the races in southern California. Privman also won the Joe Hirsch Award for Outstanding Newspaper Writing for post-race articles written on deadline. Privman’s winning entry “Gun Runner Saves Best for Last in Breeders’ Cup Classic,” on the climactic race of the 2017 Breeders’ Cup, was published on Nov. 4, 2017.
