Principe Guilherme Impresses In Two-Turn Test At Fair Grounds

A juvenile colt trained by Steve Asmussen caught the eye of Kentucky Derby fans at the Fair Grounds on Saturday, crushing his competition in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race by 11 3/4 lengths in 1:42.94. Now undefeated in two lifetime starts, Principe Guilherme earned a 92 Beyer figure for his effort.

Three Chimneys‘ homebred broke his maiden at Churchill Downs on Nov. 10 by 6 1/4 lengths, leading throughout, and he employed a similar tactic in New Orleans on Saturday. Early fractions of :24.38 and :48.79 made it easy on the son of Tapit, and he cruised under the wire in a hand ride.

Principe Guilherme is the first foal out of Grade 1 Humana Distaff winner Aubby K (Street Sense), and his second dam Lilly Capote was also a graded stakes winner.

PRINCIPE GUILHERME (Tapit) making it two-for-two for @Three_Chimneys & Steve Asmussen following up his CD MSW debut win blowing out Juvenile route by 11-3/4L in 1:42.94 with @flothejock @fairgroundsnola in nice stepping stone to Lecomte Stakes on Jan.13.
