McCarthy, 25, finished Laurel Park’s truncated winter stand which ended March 15 with 38 wins, including the Runhappy Barbara Fritchie (G3) aboard since-retired Majestic Reason, for his 12th career meet title in Maryland. The state’s overall leading rider in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019 owns 1,467 lifetime wins and has finished in the top 10 nationally in victories in 2014, 2016 and 2019.

Since returning full-time to Maryland in the fall of 2018, the Delaware native and son of ex-jockey Mike McCarthy has captured six of the last seven meets at Laurel and Pimlico Race Course. McCarthy finished second at Laurel’s 2019 summer stand behind Julio Correa, a finalist for the 2019 Eclipse Award as champion apprentice.

Davis, 28, is one of six children that grew up around the sport while their father was winning 3,382 races, primarily on the New York circuit, in a career that lasted from 1981 to 2002. Older sister Jackie and younger brother Dylan are also professional jockeys based in Pennsylvania and New York, respectively.

A native of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Davis has won 217 races since turning pro in 2014. She split time between New York and the Midwest early on, later bouncing around the Mid-Atlantic and New England before becoming a regular name in Maryland’s entries in late 2016.

McCarthy and Davis first met as children when their fathers rode on the same South Florida circuit, and became engaged last summer. They have postponed their wedding, originally scheduled for April 2, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
