Pletcher Keeping Keen Ice ‘Turning Over’ On The Road To Jockey Club Gold Cup

Suburban winner Keen Ice is on track for the Oct. 7 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park, trainer Todd Pletcher told drf.com. In preparation for the Win and You’re In contest for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the 5-year-old son of Curlin breezed a half mile in 49.39 over the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga on Saturday.

“We’re not trying to overdo it at the moment, just trying to keep him turning over until we get more serious, but he seems to be doing well,” Pletcher said.

Best known for defeating American Pharoah in the 2015 Travers, Keen Ice has been in good form of late. Two starts back he took the G2 Suburban at Belmont, and he finished second to Gun Runner in the G1 Whitney last out. Overall, the Donegal Racing-owned horse has earned over $3.2 million with three wins from 23 starts.
