Palace Malice’s 2020 Stud Fee Set At $25,000

Three Chimneys announced that classic winner Palace Malice, winner of the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, will stand the 2020 breeding season for a fee of $25,000 live foal.

The sire of 13 first-crop winners, he is the sire of undefeated Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Structor. Purchased at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds In Training sale for $850,000 by agent Mike Ryan, Structor entered the starting gate at Santa Anita off an impressive win in the G3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont.

Trainer Chad Brown commented after the race that he is considering putting Structor on the Derby trail stating, “He looks like a true two-turn classic-type horse, so let’s give him a shot and see.”

In addition to Structor, among Palace Malice’s first crop winners are Crystalle, a $220,000 OBS April graduate who won the P.G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga and finished a closing second in the G2 Miss Grillo Stakes, Talkin Malice, winner of the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Stakes, Letsstaypositive, debut maiden special weight winner at Keeneland by four lengths, and Spitefulness, runner-up in the Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes.

“We have always had a strong belief in Palace Malice’s chances of developing into an important sire,” said Three Chimneys owner Gonçalo Torrealba. “He was an immensely talented horse who Todd Pletcher described as the most versatile horse he had ever trained. He is cut in the mold of his classic sire Curlin, one of the most desirable stallions in the breed today. In setting his stud fee, we wanted to keep to our philosophy of providing fellow breeders with exceptional value.”
