‘One Step At A Time’: Maximus Mischief Diagnosed With Soft-Tissue Injury

Following a poor workout on Sunday at Gulfstream Park, Kentucky Derby candidate Maximus Mischief was officially diagnosed with a soft-tissue injury in his right foreleg, according to bloodhorse.com. The 3-year-old son of Into Mischief was declared off the Derby trail prior to the diagnosis, but trainer Robert “Butch” Reid is optimistic that the colt will be able to recover and return to racing in time for the Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 21.

“I’m not going to be able to put a timetable on much of anything,” said Reid. “Everything is kind of on hold right now. We’ll take it one step at a time and certainly give him all of the time he needs. That’s the top priority at this point.”

Winner of the G2 Remsen on Dec. 1, Maximus Mischief finished third in his sophomore debut in this month’s G2 Holy Bull. Overall, the colt has won three of his four starts for earnings of $225,700.
