OBS March: Scat Daddy Filly Brings $875,000 To Lead First Of Two Sessions

A filly by the late Scat Daddy led the bidding on the first day of the OBS March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training in Ocala, Fla. Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds as agent, the filly went for $875,000 to powerhouse buyer Phoenix Thoroughbreds. She is out of the Royal Academy mare Accusation, making her a half-sister to graded winner Sharp Sensation. Accusation has had seven foals make it to the racetrack, all of whom were winners and made at least $50,000.

A son of Bodemeister, sire of the 2017 Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, commanded $725,000 in the ring from Tom McGreevy as agent for Mike Stinson. Out of the stakes-placed Victory Island, by Friendly Island, the WinStar-bred colt worked an eighth in :10 flat during the Under Tack Show. He was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds.

Spendthrift Farm and Town and Country LLC went to $500,000 for a colt (Hip 44) consigned by Eddie Woods. The Bernardini colt, who breezed a quarter in :21 during the Under Tack Show, is out of unraced mare Sparking City, by Cape Town. Sparkling City’s dam was Navajo Pass, a mare by Secretariat who produced six winners.

Also selling for half a million was a Cairo Prince colt Hip 61), consigned by Crupi’s New Castle Farm to Jamie McCalmont, agent for Jon Kelly. The colt breezed a furlong in 10.1 and is out of the Stephen Got Even mare Summer Shade.

Woods also consigned a colt by Jimmy Creed (Hip 35) who sold for $400,000 Tuesday to Justin Casse, acting as agent for Zayat Stables. The colt is out of unraced mare, Sliced Bread, whose sire Noonmark was a graded stakes winner by Unbridled’s Song.
