NYRA, Jockeys’ Guild Reach ‘Agreement In Principle’ Friday

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) and the Jockeys' Guild, Inc. have “reached an agreement in principle to the satisfaction of both parties,” according to a NYRA press release, ending the threat of a jockey's strike at Aqueduct. Details of the agreement were not released on Friday.

According to the Daily Racing Form, NYRA and the Jockeys' Guild were at odds over a contract regarding payments for jockeys' health and insurance benefits. The Guild was seeking a three-year contract, but its attorney Tom Kennedy confirmed that the final deal did not extend that far.

“We agreed to a shorter contract that will be fleshed out between lawyers of the Guild and the lawyers for NYRA in the next week or so,” Kennedy said. “We agreed to it, so we are prepared to say it's a fair arrangement.”
