New York Trainers Receive 45-Day Extension On Continuing Education Requirement

According to bloodhorse.com, “a large number” of trainers in the state of New York have failed to comply with the state’s new continuing education requirement. In response, regulators have issued a 45-day extension, allowing trainers the ability to complete the four-hour course by Feb. 15.

“Since this is the inaugural year of the continuing education program, the commission has anticipated granting a single, 45-day extension to the New York-licensed Thoroughbred trainers and/or assistant trainers to facilitate meeting the requirement for 2017,” wrote New York equine medical director Dr. Scott Palmer in a Dec. 22 notice.

The education requirement can be completed either in person or online via The Jockey Club and the New York State Gaming Commission. Trainers who do not complete the requirement by Feb. 15 will face monthly fines, as well as the inability to renew their license when it expires in 2018.
