New York Chaplaincy Sets Jockeys Vs. Horsemen Hoops Game For Aug. 1

The 12th annual jockeys versus horsemen charity basketball game, which benefits the programs of the New York Race Track Chaplaincy, will be played Thursday, August 1, 2019, at the YMCA in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.  Previous editions were held at the Saratoga Springs Recreation Center.

The game is one of the most popular events on the Saratoga social calendar and it routinely attracts more than 300 fans. Admission is free.

The jockeys’ team is coached each year by Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero Jr., and trainers Todd Pletcher and Kiaran McLaughlin coach the horsemen’s team. The always colorful Mitch Levites of the NYRA television department serves as the announcer.

Tipoff for the 12th edition of the game is set for 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from this event serve to benefit signature programs of the NY Race Track Chaplaincy.

“Every year this game enables fans to see some of their favorite jockeys and trainers in a fun and relaxed atmosphere,” said Humberto Chavez, the New York chaplain. “Besides all the fun the fans and players have, we are raising money for a great cause.”

In addition to the action on the hardwood, the event will feature several raffles and promotional merchandise for sale.

The NY Race Track Chaplaincy provides the backstretch community with children’s enrichment, social service, and educational programs, as well as non-denominational religious services.

Horsemen, individuals, or organizations who would like to procure sponsorships are encouraged to contact Nick Caras, the programs director for the chaplaincy, at (516) 835-0275 or nick@rtcany.orgor via website www.rtcany.org.
