New Generic Drug Approved To Manage Equine Pain And Provide Seation

A generic sedative and pain reliever for horses has recently been approved by the FDA’s Center for Veterinary medicine. The injectable generic detomidine hydrochloride solution can be used to manage pain and sedate adolescent and adult horses that must undergo minor surgeries or diagnostic procedures.

Safe and effective, this drug has proven to have bioequivalence to Dormosedan. Bioequivalence means that the rate and extent of absorption of the active ingredients are equal, so the drug behaves in the same manner as Dormosedan. The generic drug does not have any inactive ingredients that affect the bioavailability of the active ingredients.

Veterinarians are encouraged to use caution to avoid accidental self-injection when using this drug. Generic detomidine hydrochloride is available by prescription only.
