Motion ‘Leaning Towards’ Wood Memorial With Irish War Cry

Isabelle de Tomaso's homebred Irish War Cry could appear next in Aqueduct's G2 Wood Memorial on April 8, according to bloodhorse.com. The sophomore son of Curlin recorded a breeze at Palm Meadows in Florida on Saturday, covering five furlongs in 1:01.10 the day before he and the rest of the Graham Motion stable are scheduled to ship back to their regular base at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland. Irish War Cry, the runaway winner of the Holy Bull who disappointed in the Fountain of Youth, worked in company with the G1-winning filly Dancing Rags on Saturday.

“They had a good work together. I was happy with that,” Motion said. “I think I'm leaning towards going to the Wood. I really wanted to give him an extra week. I was worried about coming back in four weeks again off a bad race. We could go to Keeneland, but I kind of like the idea of training at Fair Hill and running closer to home.”

Irish War Cry was undefeated in three starts before his lackluster seventh-place effort in the Fountain of Youth. Motion does not have any palpable excuse for his colt, but said that it could have been a combination of bouncing from his Holy Bull effort and a drying out Gulfstream Park surface.
