Mom’s On Strike Looking For Fifth Win In A Row In New Orleans Ladies

Brad Grady and Carl R Moore Management’s Mom’s On Strike will put her undefeated record over the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots’ Stall-Wilson Turf Course on the line in Saturday’s $50,000 New Orleans Ladies Overnight Stakes, which is run at a mile-and-a-sixteenth.

Trained by Joe Sharp, the 5-year-old daughter of First Dude enters the New Orleans Ladies Overnight Stakes off of a string of four straight victories the last three of which took place over the Fair Grounds turf. She won an allowance race on December 23 by one length and then turned in two stakes victories in the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Overnight Stakes and the Albert M. Stall Memorial Stakes. Mom’s On Strike boasts the highest amount of career earnings in the field with a bankroll of $292,950. She will be guided by jockey Adam Beschizza.

Second to Mom’s On Strike last time out is Vagabond Princess, who breaks from post two under Jack Gilligan. Owned by Michael Meeks, the 5-year-old daughter of Pure Prize has been a participant of all three two-turn open company stakes for fillies and mares on the grass at the Fair Grounds and got her best finish last time out in the Albert M. Stall Memorial Stakes where she was second at odds of 46-1. Trained by Jose Sanchez, her last victory took place four starts ago over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course against allowance company, which she won gate-to-wire by 3¾ lengths off of a seven-month layoff.

The New Orleans Ladies Overnight Stakes also features the third place finisher of the Albert M. Stall Memorial Overnight Stakes – DARRS Inc.’s Five Hearts. The 6-year-old daughter of Langfuhr finished just 2 ¾ lengths behind Mom’s On Strike and dead-heated for the show spit with I’m Betty G.  Trainer Mike Stidham, who also sends out Charged (post seven, Mitchell Murrill) claimed the mare two starts back after she won an allowance optional claiming event for a $40,000 tag. Five Hearts will be in search of her seventh career victory in 25 lifetime starts and will break from post six under Joe Bravo.

Breaking to the outside under Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens is Sully’s Dream who took the Houston Distaff Stakes two starts back over the Sam Houston turf course. Owned by Ralph Ebert, Patrick Waresk and Michael Waresk, she was fourth in the Gr. III Bayakoa Stakes last time out behind Streamline.

Completing the New Orleans Ladies Overnight field is Proud Reunion (post one, Florent Geroux), Desert Duchess (post three, Jose Ortiz), Splash Hit (post four, Gabriel Saez), and Mannerly (post eight, Javier Castellano).

Earlier on the day, a full field of 14 Louisiana-breds will assemble for the $60,000 Costa Rising Stakes – run at a 5½ furlong distance over the Stall-Wilson Turf Course. The field is headed by Trust Factor, who cuts back in distance after winning the one-mile Dixie Poker Ace Stakes on March 3. Owned by Scrivener Stables and trained by Mike Maker, the 5-year-old son of Paddy O’Prado’s only other stakes win took place last July in the Louisiana Legends Turf Stakes at Louisiana Downs. Trust Factor has a consistent lifetime record of 15-7-4-2 with $284,000 in career earnings. He breaks from post seven under Jose Ortiz.

Hay Hollow Racing LLC’s Stand Him Up will be going for his fourth consecutive win when he makes his first start since a win in the Louisiana Champions Day Sprint on Dec. 9. Trained by Howard ‘Tucker” Alonzo, the 6-year-old son of Time Bandit will also make his first start on grass since a runner up effort against state-breds at the Fair Grounds on April 1. Prior to the Louisiana Champions Day Sprint, he took the Heitai Stakes on Opening Day of the Winter Meet and an allowance event at Evangeline Downs in August. He will break from the four hole under Gabriel Saez.

Like Stand Him Up, Monte Man (post 14, Adam Beschizza) also is going for four straight wins. Trainer Ron Faucheux claimed the 5-year-old son of Custom For Carlos four back for owner Ivery Sisters Racing LLC and has not lost since joining his current trainer’s operation. These wins include a pair of allowance wins on the Fair Grounds main track and a victory in the Delta Premier Night Sprint on Feb. 10. Adam Beschizza will ride.
