Midwest Thoroughbreds Transferring Horses From Gargan To Asmussen

Richard and Karen Papiese’s Midwest Thoroughbreds will be transferring their 14 horses in trainer Danny Gargan’s barn to the care of Steve Asmussen, according to drf.com. The Midwest-Gargan duo has gone 83 for 342 over the course of their association, a 24 percent win rate.

“We had a great run, but people have to do what it takes to make them happy,” Gargan said. “Mr. Papiese notified me he wanted to make a change, and I just want to thank him for the opportunities he has given me. We did some good things together.”

The 46-year old Gargan will be left with 18 horses when Midwest’s group leave, but he is looking forward to other opportunities in the claiming business. Other trainers for Midwest across the country include Roger Brueggemann, Tom Amoss, and Armando De la Cerda.
